銘 為清水忠次先生恒春
昭和五十年五月日州延岡住

佐々木恒春は
大正14年 新潟に生まれました。
昭和25年 養子縁組のため
宮崎県延岡に移住します。

昭和30年頃から刀剣･鐔の
研究製作を始め、
肥後象嵌の祖である 林又七の技法を取り入れ
更に独自の工夫をして
鐔を製作しました。

昭和61年 宮崎県延岡市の無形文化財保持者に指定。
無鑑査や、現代の名工として労働大臣表彰もされた
現代の名工です。

緻密な透彫や象嵌が特徴で、
非常に細かな作業であるため
年間数枚しか製作されず
作品は希少となっています。

本作の銘にある 清水忠次 とは
現代刀工です。
大正10年 東京都葛飾区に生まれ、
昭和38年 吉原国家に入門しました。

全日本刀匠会の相談役を務め
東都名刀展金銀賞等を多数受賞しています。

本作は
佐々木恒春ならではの
細部まで神経が行き届いた
緻密な象嵌が張り巡らされています。
金銀を絶妙に使い分け
線の太さをごく僅か変えることで
表情に変化が生まれている様も見事です。

Sakura Kuyōmon Sukashi Arabesque Inlay Tsuba

Sasaki Kōshun
Born in 1925 (Taishō 14) in Niigata.
In 1950 (Shōwa 25), he moved to Nobeoka, Miyazaki Prefecture through an adoptive relationship.

Around 1955 (Shōwa 30), he began studying and making Japanese swords and tsuba (sword guards).
Incorporating the techniques of Hayashi Matashichi, the founder of Higo-style inlay work,
he further developed his own unique methods
and created tsuba.

In 1986 (Shōwa 61), he was designated as an Intangible Cultural Property holder of Nobeoka City, Miyazaki Prefecture.
He was honored by the Minister of Labor as a “Contemporary Master Craftsman,” exempt from appraisal.
He is a modern master craftsman.

His work is known for its intricate openwork and inlay techniques,
which require extremely delicate craftsmanship,
so only a few pieces are produced annually,
making his works rare.

Shimizu Tadaji, whose name is inscribed on this piece,
is a modern swordsmith.
He was born in 1921 (Taishō 10) in Katsushika Ward, Tokyo,
and entered the Yoshiwara School in 1963 (Shōwa 38).

He served as an advisor to the All Japan Swordsmith Association
and has received numerous awards, including gold and silver prizes at the Tōto Meitō Exhibition.

This piece features
exquisitely detailed inlay work that reflects the meticulous attention
Sasaki Kōshun is known for.
The subtle differentiation in the use of gold and silver,
and the delicate variation in line thickness,
creates nuanced expression in the design.
