A refined Choshu Tsuba by the craftsman Masaharu, signed in Gold seal.
The motif is called ‘Fukiyose’ and one of the most representative motifs of the Choshu school.
Fukiyose is meant to evoke the image of autumn’s breath gathering fallen leaves, grasses, and blossoms into gentle drifts, a poetic symbol of nature’s fleeting beauty carried together by the wind.
A nearly identical work by this artist is shown in the book “Tsuba Kodogu Gadai Jiten” as a truly representative example of the Fukiyose motif.
