The inscription states that the design is after that of Oda Sesshu (1420-1506) who worked in Kyoto, mainly as a painter of landscapes.
The tsuba is accompanied by a certificate by Dr Kazutaro Torigoe, dated 1965, stating that it is the genuine work of Soyo and opining that there are differences between the design and that of Sesshu’s.
