A shibuichi tsuba
Attributed to Funada Ikkin (1812-1863), dated 1843
Of rounded rectangular form, carved and inlaid with a be-spectacled gardener tending to his plants, the reverse with trailing paulownia, details in gold, copper and shakudo takazogan, signed Funada Ikkin with kao and dated on the reverse, Tenpo junyon, mizunoto-u moshun (mid Spring in the Year of the Hare, 1843). 7.7cm (2 7/8in).
