A shin-shinto katana
Late Edo Period, 19th century
The blade of shinogi-zukuri form, toran-ba of nioi, tight itame-hada, the ubu-nakago with one mekugi-ana, unsigned; koshirae: the saya of slanting ribbed black lacquer; iron tsuba carved and pierced with awabi shells within a silver mimi, signed Akao; fuchi-gashira of shakudo, carved with swirling clouds. The blade 71.1cm (28in) long.
