A shinto katana in Nanban-style koshirae
The blade by Yamashiro Daijo Kunishige, 18th century
The blade of shinogizukuri form, with ko-gissaki, medium sugu-ba of nioi and distinct nie with areas of notare, itame-hada, the ubu nakago with o-sujikai yasurime and two mekugi-ana, signed Yamashiro no Daijo Minamoto Kunishige; in shirazaya; koshirae: the saya of diagonally striped red lacquer; the Nanban-style fittings of iron, the mokko form tsuba with silver fukurin and applied with clouds in gold nunome; the kozuka with inlaid inscription fukujuso; the kogai with plum blossoms in gold zogan; the fuchi-gashira, kojiri and encircling kanamono with dragons and clouds in gold and silver nunome; each with fabric bag.
