At the Meiji Jingu Treasure Museum, the exhibition “The Artistry of the Japanese Sword” showcases not only the works of contemporary swordsmiths and metalworkers, but also masterpieces created by renowned craftsmen of past eras.

In the metalwork section, one highlight is the “Oak Design Tsuba” by Umetada Myōju.
Made of brass with shakudō and silver inlay, the piece demonstrates an extraordinary mastery of the chisel — so fluid and expressive that it resembles ink painting.
Delicate yet powerful, its design reflects the refined aesthetic and exceptional skill of the artisans of its time.
