Before heading to work, I’m looking at the small koshirae with the fierce tiger painting by Yuraku-sai Akabun.

A bold composition that spills out of the square frame, drawn from side to back. The dynamic fur texture, the sharp gaze. But also the comical way it sticks out its tongue and looks slightly diagonally ahead, and so on.

I saw it at the Ginza sword dealer I’m indebted to and fell in love at first sight.

It’s wonderful craftsmanship.
