Seven iron tsuba
18th to 19th century
The first of Choshu type, of large circular form, carved in relief with a dragon in a storm, unsigned, 8.5cm (3 3/8in); the second of Choshu type, carved in relief with a traveller in a landscape, signed Choshu Hagi no ju Masakatsu saku, 7.9cm (3 1/8in); the third of Tetsugendo type, carved in relief and inlaid in gilt-metal with a rabbit among waves, signed Nanki Seishindo Katsunobu kore o tsukuru, 7.3cm (2 7/8in); a Bushu tsuba carved and inlaid with the legend of shishi otoshi, signed Bushu no ju Hiroyoshi with kao, 7.9cm (3 1/8in); a late Takana-style tsuba of rounded rectangular form, carved and inlaid with Mount Fuji above Lake Hakone, signed Kagemasa saku, 7.9cm (3 1/8in); a small Tanaka tsuba carved and inlaid with rice fields beneath snow-capped hills, unsigned, 5.7cm (2½in); and an Awa tsuba of oval form, inlaid with lake scenes in gold and silver honzogan, signed with kao, 6.7cm (2 5/8in).
