Iron tsuba from the Toda school depicting a motif of saddles. The tsuba is subtle yet skillfully carved. This type of refined yet subtle style was exactly the type of tsuba the Samurai preferred.

The Toda school was one of the Ha or schools located in Owari province and one of the schools whom also made Yagyu tsuba. Toda Hikouemon(1688-1704) is listed as one of the individual Toda tsubako who was known to have been employed by Yagyu Yoshikane and/or the Yagyu school.

It tapers from 3/16ths of an inch at the seppa dai to a mere 1/16th at the rim. There are finely cut amida or sun rays covering the surface though due to the delicate engraving combined with the effects of time they are somewhat eroded, but visible.
